What does the G stand for?

Ok, I know that is a dumb question; but I really don't know. I know that "S" represents "Speed"; and wow, that phone is really fast thanks a new built in processor. Moreover, this phone consumes less energy although some people claim that the battery of the new iPhone is short. Poor Taste?

lol, G stands for generation. 3G means 3rd generation, which talks about network.
