iPhone 2G tethering with 3.0 - any news?

Hi, I have upgraded to 3.0, loaded the carrier settings, have nice carrier logo, carrier services, EDGE editing and all, but no tethering. I read and read on google and it seems to be related to EDGE, but I am sure there is a way to make it work somehow. I used to tether over EDGE and its great to download my email headers on the go, etc. Is there something I can set in the carrier bundle that would trigger EDGE as an "allowed" connection method for tethering? Thanks Poor Taste?
