Everyone was wondering what the "S" was all about here a bit back. The "S" is supposedly for "Speed and Secrecy" in the older version. The GS is for Graphics and Sound. So there are your "initials". :)

I understood S to be soley "Speed" because the new 3gs concentrates heavily on increasing the speed of the internet availability on it? I never heard anything about secrecy..
Yes, I see it the same way. The S stand for speed. I think, they did not take the SS for it, because that was use for one of Hitlerīs special service groups.
I think the word speed suits the letter S much comfortable here than
secrecy. Since one of the main features of 3G is speed then the letter
S has to stand for speed with hands down.
It's quite possible that in the beginning they had that secrecy thing, since I'm sure everything about the new phone was hush hush. At the same time, any marketing expert would have warned against have SS as the initials. Decades may have passed, but the association is still there, living strong.
Wow I was also wondering about the "S" initial, Thanks for the information. Speed I think is appropriate for that. You can't watch you tube with out the "S".
