How to xfer files via USB and open them on iPhone?

My company just gave me an iPhone 3GS.  I have some files (.txt, .html, etc.) on my PC that I need to transfer to the iPhone via USB.  Then I need to open and view the files on the iPhone.  I was able to do that easily on my old phone (Samsung Jack).  How do I do it on the iPhone?
